A young boy has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Bundaberg.

A young boy has suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car in Bundaberg North on Tuesday.

The incident happened on the first day back at school for students across the state.

The child was struck on Jefferis St in Bundaberg North about 4.20pm.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Ambulance Service said the child had been treated for serious facial and pelvic injuries at the scene.

The child was transported to Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment.
