Queensland Horticulture Council appoints Bree Watson as new Chair

A Bundaberg farming sector leader is adding a prestigious position to her already packed resume as the new chair of the Queensland Horticulture Council.

Bree Watson had added a new feather to her cap in her role as a local representative for regional fruit and vegetable growers following her appointment as the chair of the Queensland Horticulture Council.

The Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Limited chief executive will take over from Joe Moro, who is stepping down after four years in the role.

The council was formed in 2015 bring together voices from horticultural bodies across the state.

Ms Watson will be the voice for the council in its regular dealings with Queensland Minister for Agricultural Industry Development Mark Furner.

“Ms Watson brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role and looks forward to ensuring the views of council members are heard and considered at all levels of Government,” a Queensland Horticulture Council spokesman said.

Ms Watson said she was eager to help continue the council’s important work.

“The Queensland Horticulture Council has been vital in contributing to policy development through consultations and submissions,” she said.

Ms Watson will liaise with several other grower organisations from across the state including the Far North Queensland Growers Association, Bowen Gumlu Growers Association, Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Limited, Gayndah & District Fruit growers Association, Lockyer Valley Growers Association and Granite Belt Growers Association.

Mr Moro stepped down from the role following his recent election as the chair of the Queensland Fruit and Vegetable Growers.

“The Queensland Horticulture Council plays a vital role in proactively planning for the future of Queensland horticulture,” he said.

“This year it is more important than ever to ensure a united voice in horticulture.”
