Deep-pocketed families are lining up to tour Shane Crawford’s Brighton home, after it hit the market mid-lockdown with a $9m-$9.9m price guide.

A magnesium 20m lap pool, a tennis court and a gym were in particular impressing would-be buyers of the renovated Victorian at 44 St Andrews St, listing agent Joel Fredman of Fredman Property Group said.

“You also have all that space in the big grand rooms, and there’s the richness of the original Victorian period features – the marble fireplaces, the ceiling roses, the lacework, the verandas,” Mr Fredman said.

The agent continued: “The location is also so central to Brighton Grammar, Firbank Grammar and Bay St. And there’s a reserve around the corner in Middle Crescent, which is a great place for families to be hanging out.

“This it the type of property you do wait for, so I’m not concerned about the lockdown.”

Mr Fredman said Crawford and partner Olivia Anderson’s luxury restoration had also lured househunters.

“You could add a basement garage if you wanted to, or a second storey – you get sea views from the roof,” he said.

“But you can also move in and not do anything.”

The Hawthorn premiership player-turned-TV presenter told the Herald Sun last week the “old Victorian” had “needed a bit of love” when he and Anderson bought it – for $3.05m in 2009, according to CoreLogic records.

He said it was now “a beautiful house in a great spot”.

The Brownlow medallist’s “great memories” of the four-bedroom house included former coach Alastair Clarkson turning up after the Hawks won their third consecutive flag in 2015.

“He knocked on the door with three premiership cups and said, ‘I thought you might like a picture with these’,’’ Crawford said.

The couple is selling after making a sea change to northern New South Wales with Charlie, Jack, Ben and Harry.

Mr Fredman said he tested the waters by initially offering the 1887-built house on a sprawling 1477sq m block off market.

Since it was publicly listed about two weeks ago, about five “genuine family buyers” had expressed interest in physically inspecting it once Melbourne’s Covid restrictions ease, with many others also inquiring about the home.

He added he had received “a couple of inquiries” since the Herald Sun revealed Crawford and his partner, Olivia Anderson, were the vendors of Ellesmere – once home Brighton mayor Thomas Wilson. But he expected the home’s appeals, rather than star power, to get a sale over the line.

Interest had largely come from buyers based in Brighton and the Stonnington region.

The property is being sold privately and has racked up about 16,000 views on realestate.com.au – more than 24 times the average for a Brighton property.
