A Bundaberg businessman has been jailed for child sex offences following a trial in the District Court this week.

Shane Philip Kerrigan, who owns a vape store, was found guilty and convicted of maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child.

Kerrigan had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the court was shown video from an initial interview with Kerrigan and heard closing statements.

Late on Wednesday, the jury heard instructions from Judge Tony Moynihan, who outlined the important role of a jury in delivering a verdict without indulging in intuition or emotion.

Kerrigan is a well-known businessman in the Bundaberg area, having run a number of successful shopfronts stocking vaping products.

He was sentenced to three years’ prison with parole not declared.
