Bundaberg police investigate possible altercation outside Sugarland Plaza

An investigation is underway into reports of a ‘weapon’ and the strange circumstances surrounding an alleged argument at the Sugarland Plaza shopping precinct. Here is the latest:

Investigations at Sugarland Plaza

The Queensland Police Service has confirmed it is still investigating events alleged to have taken place near the Sugarland Plaza shopping precinct in Bundaberg on Tuesday night.

Those events are alleged to have involved an altercation and a possible weapon.

On Thursday, police confirmed officers were still investigating the matter, but nobody had been charged to-date.

Sugarland is one of Bundaberg’s busiest shopping areas.

Police were called there just after 5pm on Tuesday, after initial reports suggested there had been an “altercation” of some sort on Heidke St, possibly involving a weapon.

Police spoke to witnesses to piece together events, and by 7pm, the Takalvan St entrance to the Plaza was cordoned off with police tape and multiple police crews were examining the area.

Police said there had been no arrests so far, and no reported injuries.

“Investigations are still ongoing,” a spokeswoman said.

It is unclear if shoppers in the area were impacted by the events.

Sugarland Plaza’s regional general manager John Weaver said it was a matter for the Queensland Police Service and the centre offered “no comment”.

Investigations continue.
