Robert Noel Fisher faces court over death of David Mallett

The man accused of stealing a car, losing control and ploughing into a grandfather on a Bundaberg street has had his case mentioned in court.

Police allege Robert Noel Fisher lost control of the Toyota sedan he was driving, hit and killed 63-year-old Sunshine Coast man David Mallet who was walking on the footpath at the intersection of Bourbong and Bingera Streets.

In tributes, Mr Mallett was remembered as a loving grandfather who had been in Bundaberg for work.

One friend described Mr Mallett as “the nicest bloke I've ever met”.

Fisher, who was 27 at the time, was arrested at the scene.

He is facing three charges - entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle or grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

His case is set for mention in the District Court at Bundaberg on October 5.

He did not appear in the courtroom during this week’s mention.
