A night out on Jack Daniels led a young Bundaberg man straight to Bundaberg Magistrates Court, facing a charge of common assault.

The events unfolded on the evening of August 28 when the victim and his friends were walking down the street in Bundaberg.

During that time, a car was travelling past, carrying Eric Edward Dinduck as a passenger.

The court heard a friend of the victim yelled something at the vehicle’s occupants, which caused the driver to pull over and confront the young men walking on the street.

The defendant then approached the male victim and started slapping him around the head, the court heard.

Dinduck, 26, took it upon himself to attend Bundaberg Police Station to make full admissions regarding the offending, expressing his remorse and citing alcohol as a factor in the offending.

On Monday, Magistrate Andrew Moloney noted the defendant had been intoxicated at the time and had acted foolishly, attacking a young person, but that there had been no injury as a result of the assault.

The court heard Dinduck, 26, had no prior criminal history.

He received a 12-month good behaviour bond with a $750 recognisance that will need to be paid if he reoffends in that time.

No convictions were recorded.
