A man accused of the indecent treatment of his daughter was granted bail under strict conditions in the District Court of Bundaberg on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, is charged with four counts of the indecent treatment of his daughter when she was younger than 16 years.
Judge Michael Burnett said the allegations against the man were “very serious”.
The court heard that he was first charged in August 2020, and was granted bail a month later.
He then failed to appear at his indictment in Gympie District Court and when police attended his bail address, they found out he was no longer living there.
The man was picked up in Bundaberg on July 27, 2022 on a bench warrant issued by Judge Nathan Jarro in the Gympie District Court on July 18, after he’d failed to appear as required.
He was taken into custody on July 27 and had his case mentioned that day.
During the mention, it was ordered that he return to Gympie to face Judge Jarro, however, he was redirected back to Bundaberg.
The court heard the man had a history of breaching bail and had an “extensive” criminal history.
At one point, he interrupted Judge Burnett during the reading of his history, to which he told the defendant “please be quiet”.
Several conditions were made for the provision of bail, including that the man not socialise with those under 16, that he adhere to a strict curfew and that he have no contact with the alleged victim or witnesses and report regularly to police.
His case will go back before the court at a later date.
