A man who allegedly killed a cat with the intention of causing “severe suffering” has asked for more time in Bundaberg Magistrates Court.

Kuri Kitawal appeared before magistrate Trinity McGarvie in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Thursday for a committal hand-up.

“There is one charge before the court alleging on the 13th of June 2021, you unlawfully killed an animal, that being a feline with intention of inflicting severe suffering to that animal and that the offence was a domestic violence offence,” Ms McGarvie said.

Kitawal, who told the court on September 9, that he had applied for Legal Aid, said he had been struggling to organise legal representation.

“At the moment I'm struggling to find a printer,” he said.

Ms McGarvie said she was not convinced of the need for another adjournment.

“This matter has been before the course since the 16th of July, it seems to me that the matter needs to progress,” she said.

Kitawal was given a one-week adjournment to provide proof of his Legal Aid application.

Kitawal is facing one charge of serious animal cruelty (domestic violence offence).
