A Bundaberg tradie, who works six days a week, will have to tack on extra unpaid shifts after being sentenced to 40 hours’ community service.

Appearing in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday, Mitchell James Trimms pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance and obstructing a police officer while adversely affected.

Events unfolded on the morning of Sunday, August 1, when Trimms caught a taxi.

The court heard police received a call after Trimms threatened to assault the taxi driver and refused to pay the fare.

When police arrived, they had to employ “closed hand tactics” to apprehend Trimms.

A specimen taken at the Bundaberg Watchhouse showed Trimms’ blood alcohol reading was 0.199 per cent.

The court heard Trimms was remorseful and embarrassed by the events that had landed him in court.

Trimms was sentenced to 40 hours’ community service which he must complete within 12 months.

“The sooner you get it done, the sooner it’s over,” advised Magistrate Andrew Moloney.

No conviction was recorded.
