New $12m Bundaberg High learning centre almost built

Construction of the impressive, three-storey centre created 23 jobs in Bundaberg and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

After months of construction, brand new science labs, a resource centre and study spaces are just a page turn away for students at Bundaberg State High School.

Construction on a $12 million investment for the three-storey learning facility is expected to be complete by the end of September and will help local students be best in class.

As well as state-of-the-art y science laboratories and a resource centre, the building will house a number of outdoor learning spaces and classrooms.

Construction on the facility began in August 2020.

Bundaberg State High School principal Christopher McGill said the facility would link with the school’s newly refurbished arts precinct.

“The new facility provides a wonderful, contemporary environment for our staff and students to engage in quality teaching and learning,” he said.

“It provides the opportunity for Bundaberg State High School to take our STEM program to the next level in order to offer rich learning experiences for our students and to support the development of a highly skilled workforce for the Bundaberg community.

“The facility will house 21st Century science laboratories, general classrooms, an innovative STEM makerspace laboratory and a magnificent new library.

“It also includes a number of outdoor learning spaces that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.”

A Queensland Education spokesman said the project was delivered under the State Government’s Renewing our Schools program and supported 23 jobs in the local area.

“The Queensland Government has invested $8.6 million at Bundaberg State High School to deliver a new three-storey learning building,” he said.

“The Queensland Government continues to support growth in the Bundaberg area by delivering functional, fit-for-purpose facilities that align with modern curriculum learning outcomes.”

The Renewing our Schools program also delivered new covered walkways and a refurbished sports centre for the school.
