Wearing of masks is now mandatory at Bundaberg Hospital due to an increase in Covid patients.

Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS) issued an alert on Thursday saying Bundaberg Hospital had moved to “Amber” status from 7am due to the presence of 17 confirmed Covid cases at the hospital.

Under Queensland Health guidelines, an Amber status requires the public to wear a mask in the affected area in order to minimise community transmission.

A WBHHS spokesman said that a gradual increase in Covid cases has been observed over the last 2-3 weeks.

The WBHHS executive has raised the status out of increased caution prior to the Easter holidays.

“We are being cautious in the lead up to the Easter break, and we’re increasing our safety measures to protect our most vulnerable patients.” WBHHS Acting Chief Executive Fiona Sewell said.

“Our community and staff are really familiar with Covid safety requirements, and we’re confident that these changes will have minimal impact on patients and visitors to Bundaberg Hospital.”

WBHHS will provide further updates as they become available.
