WBHHS announced that as of 1pm on Tuesday masks were no longer required at Bundaberg, Childers, Biggenden, Eisdvold, Gayndah and Mundubbera Hospitals despite there being a “small number of cases throughout the region”.

“On the advice of our experienced clinical leadership, we made a decision in the lead-up to Easter to implement mask-wearing in some of our facilities,” WBHHS Covid-19 Incident Controller Ben Ross-Edwards said.

“We’re pleased to see that our caution paid off, and with the co-operation of our staff and community, we’ve seen Covid-19 numbers stabilise.

“While there are still a small number of cases throughout the region, we’re relaxing mask-wearing requirements in Bundaberg, Childers, Biggenden, Eisdvold, Gayndah and Mundubbera Hospitals.”

Wearing masks is still mandatory at Monto and Gin Gin Hospitals.

Masks were made mandatory at Bundaberg Hospital on April 6, due to an increase in Covid cases. A continued increase in cases in the following days led smaller hospitals in the region, including Gin Gin, Monto and Gayndah, to follow suit and make masks mandatory on April 12.

WBHHS said it would advise the public of any further change to visitor requirements if they occur.
