Childers man in court on child rape charges
A Childers man has appeared before a Bundaberg court on charges of raping a child, after handing himself in to police.

A Childers man has been arrested on rape charges involving a child under the age of 12.
The Bundaberg Magistrates Court heard on Monday the man surrendered himself into custody on Sunday and was charged with the indecent treatment of a child under 12 years and two counts of rape.

The court heard that when arrested the man referred to the alleged victim as a “lying c---”.
The police prosecutor opposed the man’s application for bail on grounds that the man was a risk to the safety of the community and for his own protection.
The man’s solicitor told the court his client had received treatment for mental health disorders and had reliable full-time work.
The court heard that the man had no criminal history.

Magistrate Athol Kennedy granted bail on condition the man remain at his Horton address and have no direct contact with the alleged victim.
The man will reappear before Bundaberg Magistrate’s Court for a committal hearing on May 29, 2023.
