HOW can fruit and veggies cost double the price from grocery giants Woolworths and Coles?

This is the question Bundaberg woman Morgan Faul asked after seeing the NewsMail story about a Bundy farmer and his value $20 boxes of veggies.

Miss Faul thought Woolies and Coles would not be able able to compete RBS Produce and decided to compare the prices.

She hit the keyboard to shop online and was gobsmacked with the result.

"I was interested in comparing what the average supermarket prices would be from Coles and Woolworths," Miss Faul said.

She compared the most recent $20 box of RBS Produce listed on its Facebook page with both of the supermarkets at 2pm on Friday.

The list was: 1kg potatoes, 1kg cavendish bananas, 1kg oranges, 1kg apples, 1kg zucchinis, 1kg tomatoes, 1x kale bunch, 1x wombok, 1x broccoli head, 1kg mandarins, 1 bunch beetroot.

Miss Faul used the average fruit and vegetable type available on the websites and was shocked at the difference.

Woolworth cost $42.40 and Coles cost $43.93, both more than double that of the locally grown and provided RBS Produce.

"For people that say eating healthy and fresh is expensive, this is a prime example how you can eat healthy and wholesome food without a massive price tag," Miss Faul said.

"You are also supporting local businesses and you know that the produce is fresh because it is straight from the field and not transported to several places.

"For such an obese town we have so much fresh produce at hand that is not utilised to its full potential."

Miss Faul said she would definitely be buying from the local farm in the future.
