Hinkler LNP MP Keith Pitt released a statement on Thursday reflecting on a decade in the job.

Mr Pitt was elected at the 2013 federal election and said the it had been an “absolute privilege” to serve.

“I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the continued support of the people of Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and every small township in between, who have put their trust in me,” his statement read.

Among the achievements he said he was most proud of was “securing Australia’s first regional deal for Hinkler, lobbying for recognition of the late Lieutenant Colonel Harry Smith’s soldiers for the Battle of Long Tan, fighting for ex-HMAS Tobruk to become a military dive wreck, Hinkler being a trial site for the Cashless Debit Card and most importantly, helping constituents”.

“There has been more than a billion dollars invested into the Hinkler electorate with significant upgrades to the Bruce Highway as well as making local roads safer; support for businesses to expand and in turn provide more local jobs; and financial assistance for community groups and organisations and their volunteers.”
