The recent collapse of a 166-year-old Swiss banking institution has put Bundaberg’s Greensill family - most notably Lex Greensill - back into the public spotlight as questions continue to swirl over the true legacy of the farming powerhouse.

Even after the dramatic collapse of London-based Greensill Capital in 2021, the Greensill name has been known for its impressive farming and real estate portfolio.

Residential

From stunning ocean front homes to classic country cottages, the Greensill family residential portfolio is diverse and impressive.

The family owns an estimated 10 homes with a 2023 valuation according to CoreLogic and various real estate companies of about $15 million.

The Glass House in Bargara is one of the most stunning and recognisable assets in the Greensill family portfolio.

Purchased in May, 2019 by Lex Greensill for $4.12 million, the homes has five bedrooms and five bathrooms and faces Kelly’s Beach.

The Glasshouse gained its named for its exceptional architectural design, shaped by LG International architects and SBT designs with additional craftsmanship from Steve Coates Constructions.

In 2019, Peter Greensill and wife Suellen splurged on their own piece of beachfront living in the C Bargara complex.

The three bedroom, two bathroom unit cost about $546,000 and came with scenic ocean views and ground floor pool access.

The complex also features a gym and secure undercover parking.

Little is known about the beachfront family home owned by Peter Greensill just a few houses down from his brother’s Glasshouse.

The home has undergone some refurbishment, and CoreLogic estimates the 2022 value to sit around $1.45 million.

Real estate company Domain, however, estimates the property value could range anywhere between $3.41 million to $4.33 million.

In 2015, it was sold as part of a private treaty for $2.5 million but it is unclear if Mr Greensill was the buyer.

Raeburn Street, Manly West - little is known about this three bedroom Manly home purchased by Peter Greensill in 2019.

The 1965 weatherboard home set Mr Greensill back $700,000, well above the 2022 CoreLogic land value estimation of $520,000.

Windermere Road, Windermere - several hundred metres from the Greensill farm packing shed, this four bedroom home was purchased by Peter Greensill under Greensill Farming for $200,000.

Purchased in 2007, from a family member, the modest brick home sits nestled among hectares of rich red soil.

Badilla Street, Innes Park - Purchased in 2009, this four bedroom, two bathroom home set Andrew Greensill back $425,000.

Just one street back from the ocean, the house has a veranda, spacious entertainment area and modern open plan living.

In 2023, Domain estimates the property to have a resale value of anywhere between $740,000 and $970,000.

Coolanblue Avenue, Innes Park - This impressive beachfront property purchased by Andrew Greensill confirms the family affinity for oceanside living.

Mr Greensill bought it in 2019 for a cool $1,135,000, with his wife Julianne.

The two story home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and an impressive modern interior.

Seaview Road, Quanaba - This three bedroom home is one of the properties officially owned by Greensill Farms Pty Ltd on Seaview Road.

Purchased in 2019 for $267,000, this 1993 home sits on 1000sq m of land a short distance from the Greensill Farms packing shed.

The property is estimated Real Estate View.com to now be worth between $500,000 and $550,000.

Purchased in 2019 for $5 million, this 1986 house sits on 708sq m of land also a short distance from the Greensill Farm packing shed.

Wallaville-Goondoon Road, Wallaville - Listed as rural and residential land, Greensill Farms purchased the 1995sq m of land in 2020 for $140,000.

Farming

The farm land portfolio of the Greensill family is impressive and extensive. Since expanding from humble family origins, Greensill Farms now owns an estimated 3053ha of land worth an estimated average of $43.2 million, according to CoreLogic.

Add in the estimated millions spent on machinery, sheds and infrastructure and it’s clear the Greensill empire will remain a force in the Bundaberg and Queensland horticulture industry for years to come.

Gin Gin Road, Oakwood - Greensill Framing paid $11 million for this 151.21ha of rural sugarcane land from Wickham Farms in 2017.

The property also came with a four bedroom home and a 16 bay shed.

Tofts Road, Oakwood - This 1.65ha of rich red soil was bought by Greensill Farms in 2003 for $3.228million.

Sold as rural sugarcane land, the property sits on the north side of Bundaberg.

Farquhars Road, Quanaba - Also advertised as rural sugarcane farmland, Greensill Farming paid $1.932 million for the 107.73has of land in Quanaba.

The land purchased in 2020 sits behind the Greensill Farm packing shed and is primarily used to grow sweet potatoes.

Seaview Road, Quanaba - Located behind the Greensill Farming green waste facility, the company purchased the 56.84ha for $5million in 2019.

Windermere Road, Quanaba - The 131ha of the Windermere Road blocks are home to the Greensill Farming packing shed facility, which operates year round to supply the nation’s sweet potato market. CoreLogic estimated the unimproved capital value of the land to be $1.75million.

Windemere Road, Quanaba - Sold as rural sugarcane farmland, Greensill Farms purchased the 12.51ha of land and home in 2019. The $1.32 price tag included a three bedroom home backing onto farmland.

Zillmann Road, Duingal - Greensill Farms purchased the 616.62ha of sugar cane farmland in 2015 for $3,600,500.

Seeds Road, St Kilda - Just off the Bruce Highway in St Kilka, Greensill Farming purchased the 350.72ha in 2019 for $6million.

Bruce Highway, Wallaville - This 1200ha property set Greensill Farming back $1.24million when it was purchased in 2005.

Walla Lagoon Road, Wallaville - One of the more recent purchases by Greensill Farms, the 50.17ha was acquired in 2019 for $1.2million.

Greensill Farms also owns an additional 1,450.25ha across the Wide Bay Burnett estimated by Core Logic to have an unimproved capital value of $3,752,5000.
