A Bundaberg man with thousands of social media followers says a long-running online harassment campaign escalated this week when two people turned up at his home and verbally abused him in front of his daughter.
Glenn Rumsey said the incident happened Monday night, March 24, when a woman arrived at his door, followed by a man.
He said he did not know how they had found where he lived.
Mr Rumsey is a well-known local figure who regularly cleans up rubbish and discarded needles in Bundaberg public areas.
He is also outspoken about regional issues, particularly those related to the council on his Facebook page Burnett River Clean, which has more than 5000 followers.
Mr Rumsey is also an admin of another page, Burnett River Forum, which has more than 800 members.
“A woman came to my door first then I noticed the guy … standing there too,” he said.
“She was yelling abuse and he was saying something too.”
He said the man had threatened him, saying ‘be careful you pr*ck.’
“I have full care of my daughter and she was listening to this pair.”
Mr Rumsey said he was shocked by the visit, which he believes was foreshadowed in an anonymous post made online.
“I felt quite surprised when they came here, it was made pretty clear in an anonymous post that they would be doing something like that,” he said.
He alleged an anonymous Facebook page had been targeting him for some time, frequently posting about him and sharing private information.
The Facebook page made a post after Mr Rumsey shared he was safe after the altercation.
“Not as [tough] as he makes out, he’s all mouthy behind a screen but [straight] on the blower to the [police],” they wrote.
“If this isn’t media stalking I don’t know what is,” he said.
“For someone to know where I live, all my details and private life, then tell it all, is quite serious.”
He claims the page has been used to spread misinformation about him, insult his supporters, and publicly share personal photos of individuals who engage with his content.
“Other page followers have been insulted too — one woman in a wheelchair was attacked, another had personal photos of her and her children posted.”
He notified police after the two people turned up at his house and they (police) did go to his home but he said he could not give details about what further action might happen.
“I certainly won’t be letting it just pass over,” he said.
He has since taken steps to investigate the online harassment and identify those responsible.
“I am 100 per cent certain that I will find the person responsible,” he said.
“If anyone knows of this or is involved in some way, I’d suggest they speak up or contact me.”
Facebook has been made aware of the page, but Mr Rumsey said no action had been taken so far.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said they were investigating the disturbance.
“Officers were called to a dispute and physical altercation between a 58-year-old Bundaberg North man and 35-year-old Avenell Heights man,” the spokeswoman said.
The man Mr Rumsey believes was one of the two people to go to his house was contacted for comment.
