IF YOU have $2 million dollars to spend on a home, or even if you can only dream, what exactly can you expect for that type of money?

Bundaberg builder Steve Coates Constructions took out the Wide Bay Burnett House of the Year and Home Over $2 million at the Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards with this stunning house at Coral Cove.

The cost of the build was about $2.5 million (which doesn't include the land) and the luxurious home takes complete advantage of its 40m of water frontage - all five bedrooms, and just about every other room - has ocean views.

"You get a fair bit of refinement and detail for that sort of money," Mr Coates said.

"There's a lot of house, an underground carpark.

"Six bathrooms, resort style pool and landscaping and all high-end appliances.

"Outdoor kitchen, woodfire pizza area, butlers kitchen, normal kitchen, a fireplace room and a living room area.

"The swimming pool there's not one straight edge, the stone was hand carved, curved glass balustrade.

"Most of the building materials all come locally or within Australia and some stuff comes from overseas. Italian tiles, European appliance."

The construction phase took about two years and it's location proved a bit of a challenge, but the end result is nothing short of spectacular.

"It was completed in November last year," Mr Coates said.

"It was built in a cul-de-sac so there was very limited access, just that small frontage."

Mr Coates said balancing the views and retaining privacy was important during the design stage.

"We work with the client that has an idea and design something up and get it through to the end result that they're happy with," he said.

"The location, 40m of water frontage, you can sit and watch the whales go past this time of year, it's a pretty good location."

Mr Coates said the awards were recognition for everyone involved in the build.

"We do it for the challenge and the love of it but it means a lot to show off what you do a get a little bit of recognition," he said.

Mr Coates said there were a number high-end houses being built across the region, which showed confidence.

"Obviously our population there's not as many as down south but there are a few," he said.

"There is a bit of confidence growing and so there should be.

"We've got just as pretty coastline as anywhere else, if not prettier."
