Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Debbie Carroll said the works involved replacing the existing pedestrian footpath and upgrading the road pavement within the delivery area.

“Works are due to start on 15 July and be completed by the end of the month, weather permitting,” she said.

“Once complete, pedestrians including people who use wheelchairs, will benefit from a wider and flatter footpath with improved lighting.

“We are also replacing some ageing pavement at the delivery area/helipad transfer pad with a flatter, stronger and more durable concrete surface.”

Ms Carroll said a range of temporary closures and detours would be in place while works are underway.

“The main impact will be a temporary closure of the internal road (just north of the helipad) that leads to the hospital’s main entrance on Friday, July 23 between 6am and 12pm, weather permitting,” she said.

“The project team needs to temporarily store machinery in this area while the concrete pour is under way.

“Pedestrian access to the north of the internal road will remain available during this time and traffic control will be in place to guide motorists to a nearby temporary vehicle drop off zone at the end of the footpath.”

Ms Carroll said the footpath between the main hospital building and helipad would also be temporarily closed to pedestrians for the majority of the works.

“During the closures, signage will be in place detouring pedestrians a short distance along Bourbong St to the entrance near the specialist outpatient department,” she said.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and co-operation while these works are underway.”
