A mini twister has ripped through the coastal community of Coral Cove east of Bundaberg, leaving sheets of twisted metal and destroyed sheds in its wake.
The twister is believed to have formed in the early hours of Monday morning, as widespread rain and squally conditions unleashed on the broader Wide Bay region and South East Queensland.
Just after 5am residents became aware of the destructive wind that blew outdoor furniture over while making its way through Marian Street and Bisdee Street at Coral Cove.
Some Elliott Heads residents also reported extreme winds.
Katie M Seymour shared photos of her damaged shed, asking, “How did everyone in Coral Cove hold up after the mini twister this morning? Our shed didn’t do too well”.
The photos Ms Seymour shared showed her tin shed caved in with the roof torn off.
She said her back-neighbours had seen the twister form and added, “just bad luck for us I think!”
One resident tried to see the funny side of things:
“Well, the backyard looks so much nicer without the huge garden bed that looked like a mess! So much more open space.”
Another neighbour said that her children’s cubby house door was missing along with an outdoor chair, and “the trampoline is pegged down but is twisted. [The] roof of the kids fort has missing planks. Everything flew into the back fence.”
Yvonne Lane said she “didn’t hear a thing” when her daughter’s Jack and Jill set was blown away and “ended up in the neighbour's yard”.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the Bundaberg coastal area was a ‘hotspot’ for these events which only lasted a couple of minutes.
There were no reported callouts to SES or police.
