The Bundaberg Aquatic Centre is on track for its highly anticipated opening in the second half of 2025.
Located on Walker Street, opposite the Bundaberg Multiplex, the facility will provide year-round options for training, remedial activities, and recreational swimming for people of all ages and abilities.
The centre will feature a 50m competition pool with 10 lanes built to Olympic specifications, including a 2m depth and 25m width.
The pool will also include facilities for judging, timing, a scoreboard, and marshalling.
For recreational swimmers, there will be an indoor 25m lap pool, heated to 28 degrees and designed for year-round use.
Additionally, the facility will house a heated program and learn-to-swim pool, offering warm water for remedial swimming, aqua aerobics, and physiotherapy.
The pool will range in depth from 90 cm to 1.4m and will be accessible via ramp, chair lift, and pool hoist.
With tiling now complete in all three pools, special markings for water sports such as water polo and underwater hockey are visible, showcasing the variety of activities the facility will support.
The Aquatic Centre will also feature a children’s play area, a cafeteria with adjacent seating, training rooms for hire, a grassed marquee area, and two parking lots accommodating approximately 165 cars, including four accessibility spaces.
Construction is expected to be completed by April 2025, weather permitting, with the Bundaberg Regional Council soon awarding the tender for facility management.
Progress includes the installation of fixtures such as handrails, starting blocks, and aquatic water treatment infrastructure. External works like parking, footpaths, security fencing, and landscaping preparation are also underway.
Once construction is finished, the pools will undergo filling, commissioning, and testing before the installation of equipment such as scoreboards and timing systems. Official certification for use will follow, with the grand opening anticipated in the second half of 2025.
