Bingera has put other sides on notice in the FQPL 3 Wide Bay señior men’s competition, returning from the Easter break with a 6-0 home success over Kawungan Sandy Straits Jets in Bundaberg.

Coach Glen Sparozvich said there were plenty of positives to come out of the performance, especially as his team was missing a number of key players and following on from two close losses before Easter.

Sparozvich said a number of his players stood up in the win, including veteran Brett Kitching, who put in a solid performance in midfield and young winger Parker Miller.

Sparozvich also reserved praise for his two full backs, Hayden Fritz, who scored one of his team’s six goals and Keanu Arsenault.

“Keanu came across from Diggers last year and had a really good season,” Sparozvich said.

“He stepped up against the Jets and had a really excellent game.

“Hayden was good also and got in behind their defence a few times on the overlap, which was good to see.”

Striker Gary O’Donnell, last year’s golden boot winner for top scorer in the league, made his first start for the season after a few injury concerns and scored twice in the victory.

“Gary has scored in all the games he has played in this season, but he has been coming off the bench,” Sparozvich said.

“It was good to see him get a full game in and get some of his match fitness up.

“Henry Brophy in midfield also stood out, so there were plenty of positives to come out of the win, especially with the players we were missing.

“I have got some difficult decisions to make over the next few weeks with team selection.”

Jets coach Peter Guest said there were also positives for his team, despite the scoreline.

“We are trying to implement a new style of play and credit to our players they never stopped trying to do what we are asking of them,” Guest said.

“I cannot fault the effort and it was great to see the players were still trying to play the way we want them to even when we were 5-0 down.”

Guest praised his players’ effort and commitment and picked out three who stood out against Bingera, goalkeeper Harry Schofield, left-back Harry Grimsley and midfielder Luke Foster.

"Harry made some good saves and Harry Grimsley was superb playing out of position at left-back.

"Luke never stopped running and his effort was great."
