A 35-year-old woman has been given her second jail sentence in five months over a string of shocking and violent crimes committed while on bail.

Bianca Jade Hagart Todd, 35, appeared via video link from the Southern Queensland Women’s Correctional Centre on Friday, one of two prisons where she has remained behind bars since September for a shocking attack on a man in June last year.

Todd pleaded guilty in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court to 35 charges including one count of wilful damage, seven counts of breach of a bail condition, nine counts of contravention of a domestic violence order, one count of enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, one count of stealing, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of possessing utensils, one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, two counts of contravening a direction of police, one count of deprivation of liberty, one count of driving uninsured, one count of vehicles used on road unregistered, one count of evading police and four counts of failing to appear.

The court heard a number of alarming details about the crimes which included assaulting a woman and continuous domestic violence breaches.

On April 3, 2019 Todd was involved in a fight with a female complainant on the steps of the Bundaberg Courthouse who was trying to seek legal advice at the courthouse.

Todd called the woman a “slut” and a “dog” before grabbing a fist full of her hair with such force the roots were ripped from her scalp, leaving the victim with a bald patch.

During Todd’s sentencing Magistrate Trinity McGarvie said people should feel safe at the courthouse.

“People, when they come to the court seeking assistance or to surrender ought to be safe and should feel safe when they’re doing that,” she said.

On the same day, Todd was found in possession of an implement for drug use.

Between May 23, 2019 and 11 November, 2020, Todd was a tenant of a property managed by regional housing when she caused more than $9000 worth of damages to the property.

Ms McGarvie said she declined to order restitution for the damages as there were no “realistic prospects” of the money being paid.

“For this offence, a sentence of imprisonment is a sentence of last resort, however, i’ve had regard to the breadth of the damage caused and am satisfied that a period of imprisonment is just,” Ms McGarvie said.

During her period on bail between March 4, 2020 and March 12, 2020, Todd breached her conditions seven times including not reporting to police, not complying with a curfew, and possessing drug utensils.

On November 13, 2020, while on bail for serious aggravated offences, Todd entered the home of a man and stole $2650 worth of equipment including an Xbox console and games.

On December 29 2020, Todd was found loading property with another person into a stolen vehicle.

Sometime between December 31, 2020 and January 3, 2021 Todd rang a male friend asking him for help after she claimed someone had shot at her. He picked her up and allowed her to stay at his home before she stole his vehicle during the night.

Todd had been staying with her niece on July 21, 2021 while unlawfully remaining at large after failing to appear at court on March 15 and March 23.

Her niece had returned from a day out with her daughter to find the keys and her hire car missing.

On September 15, 2021 Todd was seen by police driving at Kepnock.

When they activated their lights and sirens and signalled for her to stop she sped away.

Ms McGarvie took into account that Todd entered a plea of guilty for all charges and has a rehabilitation plan in place, but said she would impose a sentence on top of the one she is currently serving from the District Court last year.

The District Court at Bundaberg heard Todd and co-accused Kyle William Kelly picked up a man up in their car and offered him a lift on the night of June 29, close to midnight.

The court heard Todd was high on drugs and driving when Kelly pulled a knife on their victim and sliced the man’s hand when he was told to hand over his bank card and pin and gave him the incorrect number.

When the victim tried to flee, Kelly stabbed him deep in the shoulder.

When the complainant attempted to flee, Todd drove at him twice, hitting him on the second occasion.

Judge Katherine McGinness told Todd she was lucky the victim’s injuries had not been more serious.

“His body went over the bonnet and windshield before hitting the ground. How fortunate was he and you that no serious injury occurred?,” she said.

Kelly was found guilty of nine charges included deprivation of liberty, robbery with actual violence, stealing, fraud, unlawfully wound another and driving without a licence and will remain behind bars until September 5.

For armed robbery in company, Todd was sentenced to three years, for the count of wounding she was sentenced to 18 months, and for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle she received a two-year sentence.

A parole release date of September 10, 2022, was ordered to allow a Todd to start on rehabilitation.

Before Magistrate Trinity McGarvie handed down additional punishments, the court heard further details about Todd’s life including that she had a troubling childhood history and trauma which left her vulnerable.

The court heard Todd was abused from a young age.

Magistrate McGarvie exercised her discretion to not give terms of imprisonment to some offences due to the time Todd had already spent in pre-sentence custody.

Todd was sentenced to a total of 6 years, 10 months and 71 days jail for all offences, with a fixed parole date of October 22, 2022.

Convictions were recorded for all offences.
