Auswide explains the myriad colours being seen in the CBD

It’s been maroon, violet, lime green, hot pink and a few colours in between. So what’s up with all the bright colours on the Auswide building? We checked in to find out and it turns out there’s more to the story.

If you’ve been in the CBD of an evening recently, you’ll have noticed something has changed.

Grey by day, the Auswide building is now super bright by night.

The high-rise soars like a colourful beacon in the city’s CBD, but what’s the reason? The colours are pretty, but there’s more to the story.

Auswide Bundaberg chief people and property officer Gayle Job said the bright colours were part of wider renovation works being carried out on the building’s facade and foyer.

While upgrading lighting for the building, Mrs Job said they had the options of introducing the colourful filters which were all controlled by a mobile phone app.

“We thought ‘that sounds like a bit of fun to bring a bit of interest to the building and interest to the CBD’,” she said.

Locals can expect it to be lit up maroon every time the Queensland Maroons are battling it out due to the bank’s support of the team, with plenty of purple and orange at other times as they’re the bank’s colours.

But there’s another purpose to the pretty lights - generating conversation around events such as Pride Month and Naidoc Week, as well as the option to light up pink for breast cancer and yellow for Daffodil Day.

“If something significant is coming up we can light up the building and keep everyone guessing about what’s coming next,” Mrs Job said.

The lighting works were carried out by a local Bundaberg business and mark the start of more changes to come.

The facade and entry will be upgraded in the process.

The multi-storey building is fully occupied, something which can be quite an achievement in a regional city.

“I think it’s quite exciting for the CBD to have a building that’s fully tenanted,” Mrs Job said.

Locals will be able to keep guessing as the colours change from time to time, lighting up the CBD.
