After a week of call-outs more than 100 Bundaberg toddlers were nominated for Cheekiest Toddler 2024, but two-year-old Alfie Dewbery has taken out the top spot, with an infectious smile and joyful attitude.
Mum Sally Dewbery said the win proved that little Alfie’s extended family saw the same joy and sunshine in her “cheeky little ratbag” that she did, and was grateful for all the votes that went his way.
“He loves to cause destruction, but then he gives you a cheeky little look which makes you forgive him for everything he’s done,” she said.
“He’s definitely a wild child but he’s very funny.”
Despite being non-verbal, Mrs Dewbery said little Alfie had his own clear way of communicating with the family, and would often get into mischief when in want of a little attention.
“My other children spoke from a very young age, so he is very different from them but he still knows how to communicate,” she said.
“You know he’s happy because he lets out a really big belly laugh and it’s very contagious.”
The youngest of three siblings, Mrs Dewbery said Alfie was well and truly the bub of the family and often caused fun distractions for the whole family.
When speaking on the standout moments that prompted her to nominate Alfie, she said it was hard to pin just one down but recalled a certain set of toys that always entertained the whole family.
“He does lots of little quirky things, but his funniest moments are when he plays with his little ducks, he lines them up and pushes them along making their little noises as they move along,” she said.
“He’s just a happy kid from the moment he wakes up in the morning to when he goes to bed at night.”
Alfie took out the top spot in the Bundaberg Cheekiest Toddler 2024 poll with 12 per cent of the votes, with two-year-old Marni close behind with 6 per cent.
Violet-Rae tied for second place, also taking out 6 per cent of the votes, with two-year-old Archie F close behind with 5 per cent.
Three year old Mahlia came in fifth with 4 per cent of the votes.
Congratulations to all those who were nominated and keep an eye out for our next Best of Bundaberg poll. We love celebrating our city and our region.
