“The accident left me with some physical injuries and head injury, but I’ve been recovering really well with the support of an amazing medical and allied health team, and support from family, friends and colleagues,” she said.

“I still have some physio and recovery ahead of me, but I’m feeling very lucky.”

Dr MacMahon thanked the medical staff that had helped her since the incident, declaring she was now “more committed than ever” to making sure public health was fully funded and for healthcare workers to get the pay and support they deserve.

“I’ve been so touched by the generosity and care of the South Brisbane community. I’ve been overwhelmed by emails, cards, flowers and well wishes from community members near and far. I’m looking forward to thanking many people in person over the coming weeks,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back out in the community. I’m hosting a bunch of community BBQs and forums over the coming weeks, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck back into it.

“With the state election just around the corner, I’m also looking forward to getting out with Michael Berkman and leading the Greens charge into seats like Cooper, McConnel and Greenslopes.”
