Greens MP Amy MacMahon has broken her silence following a horror crash that left her with serious injuries, revealing she will be “out of action” for some time.

Ms MacMahon took to social media to thank the community for their ongoing support.

“Firstly, thank you so much for all the well wishes, flowers, cards, snacks and gifts, and the amazing care of the doctors and nurses since I’ve been in hospital. I’m feeling lucky and supported, and so grateful for how kind and caring our community has been,” Ms MacMahon said.

“You might have seen, I was involved in a car accident after leaving one of our free community dinners in Raymond Park a couple of weeks ago. I was taken directly to hospital from the accident, where I have been recovering ever since.

“I’m still very sore, have injuries that are still healing, bruises and I’m pretty tired – but I’m now able to walk around, read, joke with my family, have some little trips to the shops and eat the delicious snacks friends have dropped off for me.

“The amazing public healthcare workers that are looking after me are adamant that it’s important that I take the next few weeks to properly recover. This includes rest, eating well, exercise, assessments and time with physios, allied health workers and doctors.

Ms MacMahon said that she will be “out of action” for the time being while she continues to recover.

“But my team is still in my office keeping everything ticking along until I’m back on board – so if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to them. They’ll also be running my Facebook, Instagram and emails while I’m out of action, to keep everyone updated on local and state issues,” Ms MacMahon said.

“I can’t wait to be back on the ground fighting alongside our community to transform Queensland for the better – fighting for a future where ensuring every single Queenslander has the things to live a good life.

“I can’t wait to get back to fighting for the Gabba rebuild to be scrapped for good fighting for a secure and affordable home for all pushing for no new coal and gas and fighting for fully funded public hospitals and schools.

“We’ve got a massive year ahead and I’m so excited for what I know we can achieve together.”

It comes after Greens Gabba Ward Councillor Trina Massey took leave after witnessing the crash.
