TOOWOOMBA was in the spotlight of the election campaign today as Premier Campbell Newman visited the city, promising more jobs in health and construction and better local roads and highways if he wins the election.
"Toowoomba is Queensland's biggest inland city and gateway to the south-west's vast prime agriculture and resource industries, but under Labour the region was denied the economic infrastructure needed to keep up with growth," he said.
He said his government made the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing one of the top infrastructure priorities and was delivering on that promise.
Mr Newman noted the Toowoomba Railway Parklands had been declared a Priority Development Area, which meant council could go ahead and "transform Toowoomba's city centre", creating hundreds of new jobs and business opportunities through the project.
Mr Newman also said the plan would also give the people of Toowoomba and the south west access to better health services.
"Our plan will deliver 36 new doctors, 125 new nurses and 34 frontline health care jobs in Toowoomba and the south west over the next three years ensuring families get the care they need," he said.
