Not even the wet weather and a change in location could stop the crowds from gathering at the Toowoomba World Environment Day at the weekend. Take a look at our photo gallery here.

Despite the wet weather and change in location, crowds still turned up to celebrate Toowoomba World Environment Day at the weekend.

The annual event is designed to connect and educate members of the community about ways to protect the environment at a local level.

Lizzie Philips and her three young children attended the gathering which was relocated to Rangeville State School on Sunday, due to the rain.

“It’s really important to me to include our children when looking after the environment to protect their future,” she said.

“If young people are educated now it gives them a better understanding of the impacts.”

Ms Philips said her family joined a local community garden group and adopted simpler practices like walking, riding bikes and sourcing food from markets.

Nine-year-old Rosa Philips agreed with her mum’s sentiments and said “people shouldn’t damage the earth” but should try “planting trees” instead.
