Police investigate ‘suspicious’ blaze in Geelong’s north

Police are investigating following a “suspicious” fire at an abandoned property in Geelong’s north.

Police are investigating after a suspicious blaze tore through an “abandoned” property in Geelong’s north overnight.

Emergency services rushed to a property on the corner of Thrush St and Thompsons Rd in Norlane about 6.15pm on Friday following reports of a fire.

After arriving on the scene within five minutes, firefighters in breathing apparatus attacked the fire, bringing it under control at 6:19pm.

No one was inside the property at the time of the blaze and there were no reports of injuries.

Crews remained on the scene late into Friday to ensure the building was safe and to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The window’s at the front of the home had been bordered up with plywood, and one was marked with graffiti.

A nearby resident said the house had been vacant for some time.

Investigations into the matter remain ongoing and the fire is being treated as suspicious.
