A fire in a massage parlour’s microwave has led to the evacuation of an Ocean Grove apartment building and three businesses.
Emergency services were called to 21 Hodgson St at 1.20pm Saturday after smoke began filling the building.
On scene Ocean Grove senior station officer for Fire Rescue Victoria Andrew Shearer said, “Half a dozen people were evacuated from the building”.
“The smoke alarms worked really well fortunately and everyone was outside when we arrived,” Mr Shearer said.
Firefighters quickly removed the microwave and used an industrial fan to clear the smoke from inside Araya Massage Ocean Grove.
A woman and small child were on the footpath patiently waiting to be allowed back into the three-storey building.
As well as residents, the building is home to Physi-ology and Pepe the Store.
Firefighters confirmed there were no injuries and people have returned to their homes and place of business.
It comes just a day after a suspicious blaze ripped through an abandoned house in Norlane.
Police are investigating the fire which occurred at the corner of Thrush St and Thompsons Rd about 6.15pm.
No one was inside the property at the time of the blaze and there were no reports of injuries.
The window’s at the front of the home had been bordered up with plywood, and one was marked with graffiti.
A nearby resident said the house had been vacant for some time.
