PLANS for a new motel on Toowoomba's western fringe that will service tourists and workers have been submitted to Toowoomba Regional Council.
ANI Investments plans to build a 78-room motel and 20 units of workforce accommodation for non-residents in Bridge St.
Town planning consultant Andrew Bullen, director of Precinct Urban Planning, said the proposal had been architecturally designed to provide a high standard of accommodation for tourists and workers.
A reception area and a restaurant, which will be open to the general public, is proposed as part of the facility
Mr Bullen said designs for the motel and workers accommodation were almost interchangeable.
"The owners want to position the facility to be at the upper end of the market, because whether you're a worker or a traveller you deserve a decent standard of accommodation," he said.
The motel will service travellers on the western side of Toowoomba and workers from the industrial estate in Charlton.
The complex could also house workers during construction of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.
The motel will be located close to the IGA on Bridge St and strategically located to service travellers on the city's west.
It will be well-placed for tourists arriving at Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport and travelling into the city on the Toowoomba bypass.
Mr Bullen said events like the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers showed there was high demand in the Garden City for short-term accommodation.
