A young girl in a critical condition is among six people who have been caught up in a serious two-vehicle crash near Toowoomba.

At least one of the patients, a woman in her 60s, was trapped in her vehicle and suffered serious leg injuries.

Paramedics treated the girl at the scene for life-threatening injuries, and she was taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a critical condition.

Darling Downs Health has been called to determine if the girl has since been flown to Brisbane.

As of 2.30pm, the road has been closed off and police have urged motorists to avoid routes through Drayton Connection Rd, Newman Rd and Smith Ck Rd.

Tow trucks have been called but are yet to arrive on-scene.

Four Queensland Fire Department crews were called to the scene to assist.
