Young motorcycle rider dies following highway crash

A young man has tragically lost his life as a result of a highway crash west of Toowoomba.

Police are investigating a fatal crash in Umbiram, after a young man tragically died on Sunday.

The 24-year-old man from Pittsworth was driving a yellow Triumph Daytona motorbike on the Gore Highway, about 3.30pm.

The motorcyclist and a white Subaru Forester were travelling in a northeast direction between Southbrook and Westbrook when the crash occurred.

As a result of the impact, the motorcycle has then proceeded to hit a grey Mazda CX-3 which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Both drivers and passengers inside the two cars were uninjured.

A nurse who was off-duty at the time attempted to assist the man but he sadly died at the scene.

Crews from the Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Police Service and Queensland and Fire Emergency Services arrived on scene shortly after 3.40pm.

The highway remained closed with local diversions implemented until about 7.30pm.

The matter is being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit.
