His point is easy to understand.

Toowoomba, for all its diversity, still relies on our vast agricultural industry for much of its stability and wealth.

So the start of summer today, indeed, must smell like money.

Rain at any time is always welcome and the forecast for the next week or so spells good news for our farmers and graziers.

The rain that is coming to other regions and states has been labelled in some quarters "the 'worst weather event in years''.

That, of course, does not apply here.

Nothing could eclipse the disastrous floods of 2011.

Sadly, much of the rain will fall at the weekend and into next week.

So those with sporting plans may need to look for an alternative.

The obvious benefit of these showers will be the greening of the city.
