What we should name the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing

OF particular interest and relevance to many locals is the naming of the new range bypass which is nearing completion, possibly mid 2019.

OF particular interest and relevance to many locals is the naming of the new range bypass which is nearing completion, possibly mid 2019.

I know, with respect, some, perhaps many may have a favourite name or person they would like it called after.

I feel this would be absolutely no help to the hundreds and thousands of motorists who will arrive in Toowoomba not only from all parts of Australia but overseas as well. They will usually wish to continue their journey as quickly as they can.

So call our new range crossing what it is. Either second range crossing, Toowoomba range bypass, something along those lines because that is what it is.

There, of course, may have to be a toll.

I am fairly sure the truck operators will still be better off as they will avoid all the stops and starts of travelling through a busy city. This is very hard on their brakes, tyres, engines, transmissions etc.

And it will mean an Easter message for the trucks both ways. And it should make our present range road freer of heavy vehicles and therefore safer.

Here's hoping anyway.
