Tales prove our special Anzac link

ACROSS Toowoomba, the stories The Chronicle tells from Anzac Day services are evidence of the special connection so many have to this important day.

Whether it is Robin Musch remembering the sacrifices of his grandfather (page 4-5) or Robert Bedson travelling from Townsville to proudly watch his grandson march in the Toowoomba parade (page 6), we're only scratching the surface of what the day means to our community.

These special connections are with all of us.

For me, the day is a moment to remember my grandfather, Norman Hunter, among the people who served our country in all wars.

Norm was a member of the Royal Australian Air Force who served in the Second World War.

And his story is one of thousands that I'm sure were shared in communities across Australia yesterday, when it came time to pause and reflect.

These are the stories of service, sacrifice and selflessness that should resonate with us all.

The special connection so many have to Anzac Day can be also seen in the numbers on the ground every April 25.

It's great to see thousands turning out to dawn services across the Darling Downs each year.

They are serving to keep the memory and legacy of the day alive.

As Colonel James Brown said in his speech to the massive crowd at the Toowoomba service, the original Anzacs are gone, but their legacy remains.
