This is short notice, but extremely important.
The Minister for Employment and Small Business will be in town on February 11, as part of the Queensland Small Business Roadshow.
Significantly, feedback is being sought from local small businesses on key initiatives such as:
■ the rollout of the Queensland Government’s $140 million Big Plans for Small Business package;
■ a permanent Office of the Queensland Small Business Commissioner; and
■ the economic recovery from COVID-19 a new Queensland small business strategy.
We are grateful that the Minister has taken time, to visit us, and to hear from the small business community.
And we need to grasp this opportunity to have our voice heard and identify specific small business challenges and opportunities we face, right here in Toowoomba.
The Toowoomba Chamber sees influencing policy at a state level, as an important part of its role and a critical component to small business success.
Our recent survey of members highlighted this importance with 31% of people saying that they have dealt with a State Government representative in the last six months.
Our business interactions with the state are so incredibly important.
Why? The State Government plays a critical role in small business achievement. They can:
■ create business friendly environments by removing complex and unnecessary regulation;
■ improve the connectivity of our businesses by generating competitive digital and electrical networks;
■ commit to and deliver legacy infrastructure locally and ensure procurement, goes local first;
■ and invest in building a skilled workforce and fund programs to enhance the employability of vulnerable and young Queenslanders.
Toowoomba Chamber will be attending the roadshow to voice the opportunities and challenges in the business community, now and into the future.
