TOOWOOMBA'S Second Range Crossing must be the most sod-turned major project in Australian history.

Today there is yet another sod-turning event.

Hopefully that means we are actually on the way to construction being started.

The project has been a teeth-pulling exercise from day one.

And that day started about 40 years ago when this project was first mooted.

Since that day Toowoomba residents have endured decades of promises and more promises.

Now, finally, it seems the day has arrived.

Serious work is scheduled to start this month - hopefully.

We have waited far too long for this project to get under way but, like all good things, it should be well worth the wait.

The initial jobs injection into our economy will be massive and the four years it will take to complete the project should provide a real impetus for our economy.

The sounds of construction will be music to everyone's ears.
