OPINION: Care needed for new councillor portfolios

PLENTY of careful thought needs to be applied to which councillors will be allocated particular portfolios at next Tuesday’s first meeting of the new council.

EDITORIAL: Plenty of careful thought needs to be applied to which councillors will be allocated particular portfolios at next Tuesday's first meeting of the new council.

The first order of business will b the vote to decide the new deputy mayor.

Councillors need to make a careful choice.

The successful candidate must be able to work closely with Mayor Paul Antonio.

All candidates have said they would have no problem working closely with the mayor.

That is what they would be expected to say.

But it hasn't been all roses and chocolates between some of the candidates and the mayor.

Similarly, the mayor will have to be careful about which councillors he assigns to work together on each of the five portfolios.

Any antagonism between those running the portfolio would be extremely detrimental.

It is important this council gets off on the right foot and starts working together.
