Hearts of fitness fanatics across the region will be skipping a beat after a highly-anticipated gym finally opened its doors.

Gold’s Gym is now welcoming clients to its new Toowoomba fitness centre, which once served as a home to Aldi at Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre.

The new gym marks a special milestone for owners Joe Sobara and Bevin Jones who also run the franchise in the ACT, as it is the first time the brand has put its mark on the Sunshine State.

And while the pair and their families are now calling the Garden City home, they have plans to expand further across southeast Queensland in the future, with a Kippa-Ring location already in the works.

“We are really excited that this day has finally arrived, the gym looks fantastic, and we’ve had a lot of interest from residents who are keen to be a part of such an iconic and respected brand,” Mr Sobara said.

“A key for us is to create a community where members feel comfortable working out under the motto ‘Toowoomba, stronger than you know’.”

The new 24-hour club is equipped with squat racks, free weights and pin-loaded machines.

Offering a full class schedule with at least 35 live and digital sessions, options will include yoga, pilates, HIIT and programs by Les Mills.

Encompassing more than 1400 sqm in floor space, the wellness centre also features an in-house children’s play area and cafe called Raw Energy where members can grab a coffee or smoothie between workouts.

As a father himself, Mr Sobara previously told The Chronicle that he understood the necessity of creating an environment that was as stress-free as possible for parents and clients.

“Having a young family, I know how important it is for mums and dads to keep their fitness up, so that’s why we invest heavily in (the children’s play area and cafe),” Mr Sobara said.

With about 88 carparks on site, the building is both convenient and accessible for members.

The former Aldi site was listed for sale in late 2019, after the supermarket was relocated to the Bridge St Plaza.

Gold’s Gym Toowoomba is at 13 Princess St, Newtown.

Stage two memberships are now available to purchase and start from $14.50 per week.
