Loved ones of two women mowed down by a mystery hit-and-run driver continue to wait for answers a month after their deaths.
NT Police has renewed calls for information to provide the grieving families of a grandmother and mother killed in the distressing double-fatal crash at the Casuarina Coastal Reserve in November.
A 62-year-old grandmother and a 47-year-old mother were allegedly “callously” left for dead by a mystery driver in the early hours of Thursday, November 7, on Trower Rd, Brinkin.
A third woman was also injured and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.
NT Police have seized one vehicle and suggested another car may have been involved, however no arrests have been made.
A small bouquet of plastic flowers, tinsel and two tiny angel statues now mark the scene.
Loved ones of the two women have set up the roadside memorial overlooking the beach cliffs, as they wait for any answers that will give them closure and peace.
On Monday, Assistant Commissioner Michael White said while the driver had been identified, he was unsure if charges had been laid.
“I’m aware that the person who was driving the vehicle has been spoken to, that the investigation is ongoing,” Mr White said.
In a renewed public appeal for information, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Richard Musgrave condemned the “callous” actions of the driver.
“(They were) left for dead by the driver who did not try to help them, call an ambulance or the Police,” Sergeant Musgrave said.
He said police continued to follow up several avenues of investigation, however it was believed there remained people with information who had not yet contacted authorities.
“(I) want to reassure these people that it is never too late to come forward and to do the right thing,” Sergeant Musgrave said.
“The families of these women, who have been robbed of their mothers and grandmothers, are appealing for this person, or anyone who has any knowledge of what happened, to come forward and help them get some closure.”
