CCTV shows Yusuf Nazlioglu days before murder

A NSW Supreme Court murder jury has been shown CCTV footage of Yusuf Nazlioglu stealing a Mercedes off a Sydney street just days before he was shot dead in an underground carpark at Rhodes.

The would-be heist, which occurred in broad daylight on one of Sydney’s busiest streets, came on the back of toing and froing between Nazlioglu, his then-wife Jade Jeske, and a woman who had rented him the luxury vehicle on behalf of its owner.

Prosecutors allege Nazlioglu’s murder on the evening of June 27, 2022, was motivated by his theft of the Mercedes, which occurred just months after he was released from jail after being acquitted of the murder of Comanchero bikie boss Mick Hawi.

Three men — Abdulrahman Mohamed Atteya, Mohammed Baltagi and Mohammed Hosni Khaled — are currently on trial, having pleaded not guilty to a charge of murdering Nazlioglu.

Jurors have been told Nazlioglu was peppered with at least eight bullets after he was ambushed by a masked man while getting out of his vehicle after a day out in western Sydney.

Ms Jeske, who was in the car at the time, escaped injury and managed to use her mobile phone to record a grey Volkswagen as it left the car park, carrying two assailants.

Prosecutors allege Atteya was one of two men in the Volkswagen that day, acting in a joint criminal enterprise to murder Nazlioglu.

It is alleged Baltagi and Khaled were not at the scene at the time of the shooting but had been involved in organising and placing a series of getaway vehicles, including a pair of $4,000 e-scooters, prior to the killing that had assisted Atteya and the second man in escaping undetected.

In her evidence before the court, Ms Jeske said she and Nazlioglu had hired two expensive Mercedes Benz cars - an E-class and a G-class - through a hire company that facilitates the short-term rental of vehicles owned by other people.

Prosecutors allege one of the vehicles went to an associate of Nazlioglu, while the second car - the E-class - was retained by Nazlioglu, who failed to return it to the hire company.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of four men attending the Rhodes apartment block where Nazlioglu and Jeske were living at the time and retrieving the vehicle.

Ms Jeske said she later saw the car’s owner live-streaming on his TikTok account and recognised the location as Castlereagh Street in the Sydney CBD.

The court heard Ms Jeske and Nazlioglu drove to the location, with the CCTV footage showing Ms Jeske put her hazard lights on and stopped her car in the middle of the lane of traffic, in line with the rear of the parked Mercedes.

Nazlioglu can be seen jumping out of the white vehicle and running around to the driver’s side of the black Mercedes, while carrying a plastic bag.

Ms Jeske confirmed the pair still had a key to the car, which Nazlioglu used to unlock the door and start the vehicle.

He then indicates and pulls the car out into traffic, in front of Ms Jeske’s car, before the two drive off out of sight of the CCTV cameras.

The trial, before Justice Deborah Sweeney, continues.
