A 19-year-old has been charged from behind bars over a dramatic shooting that left a teenage boy wounded in Sydney’s west, as police uncover a trove of drugs, firearms and cash.

Man dead after intense standoff

Police have charged a 19-year-old man following investigations into the alleged shooting of a teenage boy in southwest Sydney earlier this year.

The arrest comes almost three months after a 17-year-old boy arrived at Bankstown Hospital at about 7.40pm on February 7, with a gunshot wound to the leg.

He was accompanied by an 18-year-old man who allegedly refused to co-operate with police when officers attempted to arrest the older man for concealing a serious indictable offence.

The 18-year-old man remains before the courts.

As part of inquiries, police established a crime scene at a park on Mulga Street, Punchbowl, where they located and seized a spent ammunition cartridge which underwent forensic examination.

On February 27, investigators executed search warrants at two homes in Greenacre, seizing a loaded firearm, cocaine, MDMA and cash at a home on Wilbur Street.

A second 18-year-old man was arrested at the property and charged with 13 offences, including discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, multiple firearm and drug offences, and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail and is due to reappear in Bankstown Local Court on May 7.

After further inquiries, Muhammad El Badar was arrested on April 30 at Silverwater Correctional Complex, charged with a string of serious firearm offences.

The 19-year-old was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, firing a weapon in a manner likely to injure persons or property, possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, and acquiring a pistol while subject to a firearms prohibition order.

On Thursday, El Badar’s matter was briefly mentioned at Bankstown Local Court where he did not apply for bail and was remanded in police custody until his next court appearance.

Police documents tendered in court allege between 7.20pm and 7.30pm on February 7 at Salmon Reserve in Punchbowl, El Badar discharged a 9mm pistol at the teenage boy with the intent to cause him grievous bodily injury.

It is further alleged, El Badar was subject to a firearms prohibition order at the time of the offence.

His matter was adjourned to May 7, at Burwood Local Court.

Investigations continue under Strike Force Osage.
