A Norco milk truck driver who remains hospitalised after colliding with a ute in a serious crash near Coffs Harbour “may never be able to work again” as the community has rallied to support him.
James Marshall, 53, remains in Gold Coast University Hospital after the nasty multi-vehicle crash on Orara Way, Nana Glen — west of Coffs Harbour at about 8.30am on Friday.
It is believed Mr Marshall was on his morning milk run when the crash occurred.
After the collision, he became trapped in his work vehicle and had to be cut from the truck with the Jaws of Life by members of the SES and NSW Fire and Rescue.
He was treated by paramedics on the scene before being flown to the Gold Coast in a critical condition.
Family friend Tiah Little said his truck was a “write off”, and said Mr Marshall has “a long road to recovery”.
“James may never be able to work again,” she said.
Two passengers in their teens were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the ute – a 41-year-old man – and his eight-year-old passenger were uninjured.
Both drivers will be subject to mandatory blood and alcohol testing.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
Meanwhile Ms Little has called on the Orara Valley farming community to “band together and help” Mr Marshall’s family by donating to a fundraiser.
In its first day the community had already donated over $2,600 — well on its way to a target of $4,000.
