Operators of a beloved South Coast bowls club have squashed swirling rumours the longstanding venue is broke and set for closure, saying a facelift and a “bright future” is under way.

When Mollymook Beach Bowling Club appeared on the ASIC liquidation list, talk ran rife in the small coastal town.

The notice revealed the 60 Forest Way, Mollymook club had entered liquidation on June 30, but St Johns Park Bowling Club group marketing and entertainment manager, Debbie Vermeulen, said there was no cause for concern.

“The club is not closing, it’s an amalgamation with other clubs,” she told this publication.

Ms Vermeulen explained the liquidation listing was a formality, as the club’s existing ACN and business name were retired due to the merger.

“Let’s kill the rumours — a lot in the community think the club is broke and closing its doors. That’s actually not true,” she said.

“The club has amalgamated with several others under the St Johns Park Bowling Club name, and now its future is very bright.”

She said the merger would bring significant investment to Mollymook Beach Bowling Club, with major upgrades already in the pipeline.

“These will all be subject to council approval, but we’re planning some great things,” she said.

While details remain under wraps, she said the club’s dated dining area, kitchen, play area and amenities were in line for a complete overhaul.

“Another thing that I want the community to know is that we’re keeping all staff,” she said.

“Everyone’s job is safe and this amalgamation is really going to save the club.”

St Johns Park Bowling Club also oversees Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club, Wallacia Country Club and Balmain Bowling Club.

“We’re really excited to grow our club and we’re excited for the community to see what we can do,” Ms Vermeulen said.
