A Central Coast man once jailed for sending a disturbing message to a 12-year-old girl has again found himself behind bars — this time for a violent outburst against a housemate, property damage and a series of fraudulent purchases.
Shane Bushby, 37, of Lake Haven, was sentenced in Wyong Local Court to an aggregate term of 11 months’ jail for offences including common assault, destruction of property, and dishonestly obtaining property by deception.
According to police facts, Bushby asked his housemate on April 19 to help set up a mobile phone, but she was unable to help as it was after hours.
The following day, Bushby again asked the woman for help. She told him to give her half an hour to get dressed, but he became impatient.
Bushby then approached her bedroom and used force to push open the door, causing the hinges to break.
“The accused continued to yell at the victim and laugh, while trying to make her set up the phone,” court documents stated.
A witness heard the commotion and contacted police, who arrived about 11.36am. Bushby was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station, where he declined to take part in an interview.
Police facts also reveal that on April 18, Bushby was at the North Lakes Tavern in San Remo, in the gaming room with an unknown man, when he became angry and slammed his fist into a gaming machine.
The impact caused the glass surrounding the play button and touchscreen to smash.
While in custody on April 21, Bushby told police: “I got angry and hit the button too hard. I was going to go back and see if I could make a payment plan.”
Bushby was also sentenced for multiple counts of obtaining property by deception after using a victim’s credit card on February 8 this year.
On that day, he spent $99 on a taxi, $91 on sunglasses and cigarettes, $79 on a mobile phone, $99 on another mobile phone, and $100 on a gift card.
In 2017, Bushby — then aged 27 — sent a 12-year-old girl a message on Facebook, calling her a “hottie” and asking for her mobile phone number.
