Anthony Munkara R14 tribunal incident

A Tiwi Bombers’ star is likely to be out of action until the NTFL finals after he was charged with striking a Waratah player in Round 14.

Anthony Munkara has proven a human highlight reel in the 2024-25 season with some courageous marks and stunning goals that have gone viral across the country.

However, his latest highlight is one he and his side would sooner rather forget after he charged at and struck Jack Bambury’s head with his arm 12 minutes into the second quarter.

The incident followed a double tackle that left Munkara on the ground calling for a free kick that he did not receive.

He got to his feet chasing the ball, when it was turned over by Waratah, and then took out Bambury, who fell straight to the ground and didn’t return to play from then on.

Munkara played for Waratah last season after being delisted by Essendon.

The AFLNT match review found the strike was intentional with high impact and high contact and gave him a base sanction of four matches.

He can, however, accept a three match ban instead if he makes an early guilty plea, which will allow him to play the first week of finals for the Bombers.

Tiwi may also be without the services of another frequent goal scorer in Malachi Walley after he was found to have engaged in rough conduct against Tahs’ Timothy Kerinaiua.

Walley’s conduct was found to be intentional with low impact and high contact, meaning he was handed a two match ban, which could be downgraded to one with an early guilty plea.
