The Labor government have committed $2m each year across four years to sporting clubs and association should they get re-elected.

Sport plays an important role in the NT with more than 120,000 Territorians involved in a sporting or recreational activity.

If re-elected the Lawler government have promised to establish the Sport and Active Recreation Infrastructure fund that will deliver grants to clubs across four years for an overall cost of $8m.

The fund will allow sports clubs and associations across the NT to plan and deliver key upgrades to create better experiences for their players, volunteers and fans.

It comes after the government upgraded lights at ovals across the NT including Bagot Oval, Gardens Oval and Nightcliff Oval.

“Sport is such an important part of the Territory lifestyle and that’s why we will invest $8 million to upgrade sporting and recreational facilities across the Territory.”

“This will ensure that clubs across the Territory can fund critical upgrades to facilities to grow participation and get more Territorians playing the sports they love.”

Sport Minister Kate Worden said the Labor government wanted to see more Territorians take up sport.

“We want more Territorians to get in the game and enjoy sport,” she said.

“Supporting Territory clubs to upgrade change rooms, lighting and build more shade will help encourage more people to get involved.”
